The Bombing Brain Blog

Thank You for Our Best Day Yet

Thanks to everyone who purchased Teleprompt+ 3 during its launch day yesterday. We’re very happy with the way the day turned out, and from what we’ve been hearing so far, so are you.

Launching such a big upgrade is a daunting task, and it required countless hours over the course of a few years from the whole Bombing Brain team. We take these upgrades very seriously, and we try our best to produce products that people will really love to use. We hope you can sense that every time you launch Teleprompt+ 3.

Don’t forget to check out the User Guide, which can be downloaded here, or can be accessed from the help screen if you’re on your iPad. We’ve also submitted the guide to the iBookstore, so you’ll be able to download a free copy of it to read in iBooks on your Mac or iPad once it has been approved. Stay tuned here on for more updates. The guide makes a great reference for those times you need to research a particular feature.

Also, check out the new videos in our video series on getting the most out of Teleprompt+ 3. Those videos can be found on our Teleprompt+ Support page. We’ll be adding more of the advanced videos as time goes on, so stay tuned to our blog to find out whenever a new video gets added.

Finally, if you like the new Teleprompt+ 3, don’t be shy about telling us. We find the feedback very encouraging. You can also rate us on the App Store, if you are so inclined. Doing so helps others discover the app, and it helps us keep improving it.

As always, don’t hesitate to ask if you have any issues or concerns about your Teleprompt+ 3 experience. Those of you who have been customers of ours for a long time know that we stand behind our products, and we’ll work hard to be sure that you are satisfied with Teleprompt+ 3.

Thanks again, and we’ll be talking more about Teleprompt+ 3 here in the near future.

Teleprompt+ 3 is Here

The wait is over. Teleprompt+ 3 is finally here. We’ve spent a lot of time and energy making this new app the best it can possibly be, and we hope you love it as much as we do.

Teleprompt+ 3

So what’s new and special about this version? Let’s start with some of the biggest new features:

  • Rich Text support—Now you can use bold, underline, italic, colors, and indentation to make parts of your script stand out.
  • Quick Edits—You no longer need to exit prompting mode just to make a fast correction or update to the script. Pop into Quick Edit mode, make your changes, then exit right back to the prompting session.
  • New Design for iOS 7—The entire application has been rethought and redesigned to be cleaner, more efficient, and more in line with the latest OS. As a result, not only does Teleprompt+ 3 look better, it’s also easier to use and more elegant than ever before.

And these are just a few of the big changes that can be found in Teleprompt+ 3. Explore further, and you’ll find improvements and updates in every corner of the app, including exporting of scripts and recordings to Dropbox or Google Drive, support for RTF and DOCX text files, time-based scrolling, adjustable margins, more font and size choices, a much simpler remote control setup, improved external monitor support, and much more.

If you’re ready to download the world’s leading Teleprompter application for iOS now, you can get it on the App Store. Take advantage of the special introductory price, because it won’t last long.

If you want to learn more, take a look at our User Guide or watch some of our Teleprompt+ videos here.

Teleprompt+ has always had a loyal audience that constantly pushes us to improve. We could not have gotten this done without all your help and support. Thank you. Know that we are dedicated to continually improving the Teleprompt+ 3 experience, and your feedback is always welcome.

The New Teleprompt+ Icon

One of the tasks I was most looking forward to with the Teleprompt+ 3 redesign was the app icon. It’s an interesting challenge: create something that looks fresh and new, yet signals to our long-term customers that this is still their favorite teleprompter application.

The original icon I designed back in version one had been done in Illustrator (and long before I had any idea what I was doing, frankly). It consequently had an abstract hand-drawn look about it.

The original icon for Teleprompt+

Ironically, this “flat” 2D approach probably would have been more at home for the newer iOS 7 look and feel than it ever was in iOS 4, 5, and 6. Perhaps I could have just cleaned it up a bit and let it go at that? But when I started to approach this new version for iOS, I fired up Cheetah 3D instead.

This is not to say I was looking to make photo-realistic icon for this latest version. Teleprompters are not, for instance, a rich green color. But I did want to add some of the detail and subtle lighting that a fully-rendered 3D version could give me.

The shape of a Teleprompter is recognizable, but not in the sort of simplified sillhouette style of most current iOS 7 icons. I needed a certain level of detail to invoke instant recognition. Why fight that? I wanted to make something appropriate first and foremost, not just try and blindly stick with the trends.

The new Teleprompt+ icon

Maybe using a 3D program for an icon is nuts in the era of flat design, but I actually think the new Teleprompt+ icon fits in just fine on an iOS 7 home screen, while still maintaining a standout look that’s easy to locate at quick glance. It’s 3D, but it’s not heavily textured nor lit to produce harsh shadows. It’s familiar enough that after a while you’ll forget how different it used to look. And yet when you see old and new side by side, there’s no mistaking the difference.

Teleprompt+ 3 is Almost Here

Today we want to take a few moments to talk about our flagship product, Teleprompt+. We’re extremely proud that Teleprompt+ has been the number-one teleprompting solution on the App Store since its debut nearly four years ago. And we’re grateful to our customers for making that possible. Lots of competitors have come along, but professionals continue to choose Teleprompt+ as the best tool for the job. Whether used by video producers, lawyers, public speakers, senators, preachers, or everyday people who just need to give a talk in front of an audience, Teleprompt+ has always blown the competition away in usability, features, and customer service. And as our customers no doubt know, we’ve worked harder than anyone at staying ahead of that competition by adding tons of new features and making under-the-hood improvements on a consistent basis.

But four years of steady additions and changes take their toll on any piece of software. Making all of those changes one at a time over several years—eventually all of that tinkering adds up inside the app, bogging it down and making it harder and harder to maintain. For this reason, we’ve decided to take this opportunity to rethink our application from the ground up—to figure out what is still working and what needs to be updated, removed, or replaced.

And so we opened up a brand new blank project file, and we started all over again.

That work began several months ago, and we’re happy to report that we’re close to finishing the best version of Teleprompt+ ever. A cleaner interface, a better foundation for smoother, more reliable performance, and some of the most long-awaited new features.[1]

This will be a better application in every sense of the word, both under the hood and on the outside, as you use it every day for your professional needs.

In order to move forward into this brave new world, however, we’ve had to make some hard decisions and leave behind some things that were holding us back. For this reason, Teleprompt+ 3 will require iOS 7. According to Apple, already over 85% of the iOS-using world has upgraded. But we know that some of you are holding on to those older iPads in your studios and don’t have the means or need to update or replace them. This made the decision harder for us than for many other app developers. Still, once we evaluated the technologies in this latest iOS version, we realized that iOS 7 offered us the only way to add some of the most requested features we’ve been dying to introduce for a long time. We needed to move forward to serve the majority of our customers best and to make Teleprompt+ as good as it can be.

Those who are unable to use the new Teleprompt+ 3 for whatever reason will still be able to use the last version of Teleprompt+ 2—the app will continue to serve you as long as you keep that older device running, and you will be able to download it from your purchased apps list if you ever accidentally erase it from your device. We’ve worked hard to make sure that this current version is reliable, even on the latest version of iOS 7, and it will continue to serve you as well as—if not better than—the day your purchased it.

Another change we’ve made is to abandon our previous strategy of offering separate iPad, iPhone, and free Remote applications, and instead combine all of that functionality into one universal app. Anyone who purchases Teleprompt+ 3 on his or her iPad will be able to download the full version on the iPhone or iPod touch at no additional cost and use it either as a standalone application or as a remote control for his or her other devices.

And that brings us to the final point. What will it cost? We’ve weighed this decision for many months and studied every possible way to best present this new version to our customers. Many of you know that the App Store does not allow us any way to offer a simple upgrade price to current customers only. We also can’t combine the iPhone and iPad versions into one universal application without causing confusion and forcing at least some of our customers to pay to migrate. So we’ve decided to offer all of the new features of Teleprompt+ 3 in a single, new, universal application, which we will offer at a special price for a limited time at launch. Previous customers who act quickly can take advantage of this opportunity to get all the benefits of Teleprompt+ 3 at the best price it will ever be available.[2]

If you have any questions about our plans for Teleprompt+ 3, feel free to contact us via this link. And let us know if you’d like to be added to our mailing list, so you can be among the first to get your hands on Teleprompt+ 3 as soon as it arrives. In the meantime, we’ll continue to post some sneak peaks here on our site and elsewhere. We hope you’ll be as excited about this release as we are.

Thanks again for making Teleprompt+ the number-one solution for teleprompting on the App Store. Together, we’re going to take teleprompting on the iPad to new heights.

  1. Rich text in scripts, quick editing of scripts while prompting, and a completely revised workflow for easier, more reliable remote control of several devices at once—just to name a few.  ↩
  2. The Mac version of Teleprompt+ will also be upgraded to become compatible with the new iOS version 3. This Mac upgrade will come at no cost to current customers of the Mac version. Any previous Teleprompt+ users will be able to migrate their scripts to the new Teleprompt+ 3 application via a simple set of instructions, to be provided at the time of launch.  ↩

We’re Looking for a Few New Beta Testers

We are excited to announce that we have started a beta test for the newest version of Teleprompt+! This is a complete redesign and rewrite of the app that we have been working on for over a year now. Here are some highlights of what is new:

  • User Interface redesign – we’ve updated the UI to be in line with iOS 7, plus we’ve taken your UI feedback over the years and applied changes to make your experience even better.
  • Rich text scripts! You can now use multiple font colors within a script. Apply Bold, italic and underline formatting to sections of a script. Great for scripts with multiple readers.
  • Quick Edit Mode: Need to make a quick change to a script while prompting? Now you can make quick edits right from the prompting screen.
  • Full Screen Editing – the main editor can now be expanded edge-to-edge for easier text editing.
  • Edit scripts from your remote control device. Once you have one or more devices connected in a remote session you can edit a script on any device from a single remote.
  • The remote functionality has been redesigned both from a user interface perspective and “under the covers”. Everything can be controlled from a single device.
  • Import Microsoft Word (docx) and RichText (rtf) files directly into Teleprompt+.
  • Improved Dropbox and Google Drive support. You can now export scripts to those services. Also you can import DocX and RTF files from these services.
  • Updated External Screen support. iOS 7 broke the external display support. We’ve updated and fixed it in Teleprompt+ 3. We’ve even added a switch to use standard iPad mirroring if you prefer.
  • Adjustable margins so you can align the text closer to the camera and reduce eye movement.
  • Justification settings. Align your text left, right, centered or justified.
  • New Audio & Video controls for quicker access to start and stop recording. Audio/Video mode can now be toggled directly in while in prompting mode.
  • Different scrolling speed choices: Speed or Time. Either choose a speed between 1.0 and 11.0 or constrain your presentation to a time limit and the script will scroll within the allotted time.
  • Auto Pausing Cue Point option. When the prompter hits a cue point marker it will pause automatically. Great for presentations that include waiting for audience feedback or questions.
  • Tired of having to go into the Settings app to get to the advanced options (did you even know about them)? They can now be accessed in the app directly in addition to the Settings app.
  • Export audio and video recordings directly to Dropbox and/or Google Drive.
  • iCloud stability improvements
  • Many other small tweaks and changes.

Excited yet? We are, but we need your help before releasing this to the world. Our plan is to put this on the App Store near the end of April. We’d like to get the app setup up on one or two of your iOS devices soon so you can play around with it for a while and let us know what bugs you find and suggestions you may have. The time frame of this beta test is from now until about April 9th. This will give us time to make any final tweaks and updates to the app before we submit it to Apple for approval.

We have a number of beta testers already working with us, but we could still use a few more. Interested? Read on for more details.

Requirements to be a beta tester:
All that we ask is that you have an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch with iOS 7 installed. We have limited beta licenses from Apple so we just ask that if you volunteer you make sure you have the time between now and mid April to run through the app a few times and let us know your findings.

How to apply to join the beta test:
If you want to apply to be a part of this beta, send an email to and we’ll let you know if you are accepted. As we mentioned, we have limited slots, so depending on your available devices and the amount of respondents, we can’t guarantee that everyone who is interested will be able to get in. Regardless, we thank you for your interest and help in getting out this new version. We hope to hear from you!
